THE ROLE


Under the direction of the District Manager, the Financial Counsellor provides military members remedial, preventive and informative financial counseling. You interview clients to explore variable and fixed cost areas in their lifestyle, and to collect and analyze financial data to determine required financial assistance. You create, analyze and assesses the financial repercussions of various corrective plans of action including debt consolidation plans, negotiating with financial institutions, preparing case summaries, and recommending the approval of grants and loans as appropriate. You negotiate with commercial and professional lending institutions for the purpose of making mutually acceptable arrangements with creditors for financial restitution.


QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED


Education, Certifications and Licenses

  • College diploma or certificate in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, AND several years of financial counselling

AND

  • Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) and life insurance license (Ontario), an asset
  • Registered to sell Mutual Funds (MFDA/AMF), an asset

Experience

  • In personal lending
  • In dealing with litigation matters and negotiations
  • In budget administration
  • In making assessments and referrals to other professionals
  • In organizing and delivering presentations

Knowledge

  • Of current counselling techniques, theories, principles and practices
  • Of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act
  • Of the Organization and procedures of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), an asset
  • Of the CAF compensation and benefits packages, an asset

Competencies, Skills and Abilities

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.

SISIP Financial provides a holistic approach to financial planning, investing, insurance and counselling services to the Canadian military community.

  • This is an on-site position.
  • The selection process will be done virtually.
  • Relocation benefits will not be provided.

  • This position will involve occasional travel within the NCR to facilitate financial literacy seminars.
