Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

The Senior Director (SD) SG&I will report to the CEO and is a key member of the leadership team. The successful candidate should have experience working with senior managers in the Canadian Nuclear industry. Previous experience in sales management, account management, innovation, and strategic planning would also be welcome. Experience in a technical services organization possibly one that provides international Engineering and Testing Services would be ideal.

The SD SG&I is responsible for the following:

  • Account Directors; a team of 4 mangers responsible for coordinating interactions with our key clients, including Bruce Power, OPG, COG, NB Power and some of our growth areas such as Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and Fusion power vendors. The account managers are responsible for ensuring that Kinectrics is focused on the current and future requirements of these customers. Ensuring that key individuals in our customer organization are aware of Kinectrics and our products and services and developing capture plans for strategic opportunities. The Account Directors also have a key role to ensure that Kinectrics develops services to meet our client’s future needs.

  • Virtual Teams; The SD SGI personally leads virtual teams focusing on areas of growth within our industry, such as Decommissioning & Waste Management (D&WM), Fusion and CANDU new build.

  • Innovation Director; is responsible for stimulating and nurturing innovation, and New Product Development (NPD) across Kinectrics Nuclear business.

  • Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Lead; responsible for the implementation of our ESG program. Our program is focused on 5 of the UN areas.

Key Responsibilities:

To satisfy these accountabilities, key responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Manage a team of account managers in Canada whose primary focus is to:
  • Develop account plans for our strategic customers in Canada, and ensure that they are understood, and implemented across the company.
  • Establish zipper plans to coordinate the interaction between KI and our strategic accounts.
  • Develop and implement capture plans for important opportunities.

  • Create and personally lead virtual teams to develop Kinectrics business with emerging markets such as decommissioning, waste management, SMR’s, fusion etc.

  • Manage and support the Innovation Director in stimulation of growth across the company. Key elements of the program are:
  • Ideation, based on latest trends (robotics, adaptive manufacture, drones etc), facilitating creativity through plan box.
  • Managing the NPD investment budget.
  • Developing a road map to growth for each profit center.
  • Reviewing return on investment.
  • Generate new business.

  • ESG with responsibility for helping to define our ESG goals, and leading cross functional teams to implement. As we have only just started to implement this program, review, reflection and refocus will be important.

What You Need to Succeed

The ideal candidate will be an individual with strong business development (BD) skills and a proven track record of managing BD in the nuclear industry. The ability to identify and nurture innovation with, experience in an engineering services/industrial private sector. Specific qualifications include:

  • Likely to have a degree in an engineering or related field.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships throughout the organization, including the senior management team.
  • At least 10 years business experience in senior BD roles with a proven track record of results.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience at a senior level managing a BD team.
  • Experience in building cross functional or virtual teams.

Personal Skills:

The successful candidate will possess the following personal skills and attributes:

  • Completion of a 5-year university degree in business, science or engineering.
  • Knowledge and contacts in the CANDU industry in Canada and internationally.
  • Experience in facilitating consensus from diverse team and getting buy in to deliver the selected outcome.
  • A period of 8-10 years related experience is required.
  • Experience with developing and implementing business strategy.
  • A determined yet collaborative work style.
  • Excellent, written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
  • High sense of personal accountability.
  • Ability to learn, understand technical and business processes quickly.
  • An individual who blends leadership, seasoned business, and financial judgment with a fact-based, analytical approach and who seeks creative, breakthrough solutions to financial issues.

The following would also be an asset:

  • Experience in D&WM and C6’s.
  • An individual who will be comfortable with a private sector active management owned style.
  • An individual who has personal drive and a commitment to hard work.
  • Strong ability to think "out-of-the-box” and has a team and service approach.
  • Must be able to "roll-up his/her sleeves" and have a "hands-on" approach.
  • Long-term thinker, bright, innovative.
