The North American Tubular Division is recruiting for a New Business Development Engineer reporting to the Commercial Director of North American Automotive Products. This role can be located out of the Woodstock Ontario, Michigan, or central Ohio areas however the role will focus on supporting customers mainly in the Detroit area, thus travel as required.

In this role your focus will be to identify and cultivate new business opportunities. This is accomplished through expanding current relationships and establishing new relationships with potential Automotive customer’s Engineering teams. The overall goal is to become the customer’s developing source for the production business.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Solicit new business opportunities by meeting with Automotive Customer’s Engineering teams to understand opportunities on new vehicles that ArcelorMittal Tubular Products can support with our current and potential capabilities/technologies.
• Cooperate with customers to identify new product developments, continuous improvement ideas and process innovations
• Introduce customer Engineering/Product Development teams to ArcelorMittal’s capabilities/technologies. The goal is creating traction at the Automotive customer(s) with products that fit within our current or future capabilities.
• Create a line of communication between the customer and ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Product Engineering team(s) providing solutions to issue(s) the customer may have with performance/mass/packaging/timing/current supplier capabilities and leverage our technical solution to our commercial advantage.
• Support/Liaise with ArcelorMittal flat rolled Product Development group to ensure that we provide our customers with the latest steel solutions. Where possible influence the design to utilize our proprietary technology/chemistry/process ensuring that we offer our customers with the best solution.
• Secure prototype business with the goal of supplying Design Validation requirements for all tubing, components, or assemblies.
• Communicate market intelligence and vehicle architecture trends to guide our strategic direction.
• Develop and communicate a clear understanding of competitor capability and product mix.
• Be the voice of the customer, ensuring that the solution provided aligns with their expectations.
• Work closely with Sales Account Manager to set the customer’s component/tube budget at each stage of the development process.
• Attend all Advance Quality Planning (AQP) meetings to support customer technical issues.
• Work closely with the customer on engineering changes to ensure that we secure the business and that we are capable of producing the replacement tube/part.
• Work closely with our commercial team to ensure that the customer’s purchasing group supports moving forward with AMTP as the production supplier.
• Supports Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to understand the impact of the suggested changes on the fit and function of the component/tube.

EDUCATION/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• B.S., Materials Science/Engineering
• Minimum 5 years work experience in Automotive Components, metal forming
• Past experience as a customer liaison would be an asset.
• Demonstrated performance, knowledge, and experience of manufacturing processes.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $105,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
