Position Summary

As an integral member of the Finance Department team, the Financial Analyst I performs a broad scope of professional accounting activities requiring experienced, professional knowledge and application of accounting principles and practices. Reporting to the Financial Business Manager, Core Facilities and Clinical Research, performs, relatively independently, a wide range of detailed and complex accounting and advisory functions requiring professional judgement pertaining to assigned accounts and ensures day-to day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies and objectives.

Duties:

  • Performs analyses on a regular basis for a range of complex functional centre accounts, as assigned
  • Provide invoice support to Research Core Facilities for internal and external clients and Foundations, via QuickBooks and SAP
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly QuickBooks Reconciliation
  • Support mid to long term plan for Research Core Facilities
  • Perform cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or required
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly packages for management to facilitate the decision making and financial reporting process.
  • Liaises, as required, with site and UHN departments, external clients, etc., to obtain information, respond to requests for information or explanation of financial and/or statistical data or site / UHN finance policies, processes and procedures, assist in training and provide technical assistance

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Business Administration or equivalent
  • Two to Three years (2-3) related experience in an accounting environment with exposure to a range of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Experience with Grant accounting, preferred
  • Experience with QuickBooks and SAP, preferred
  • Working towards completion of a professional accounting program, preferred – eg. CPA or relevant combination of education and experience
  • Ability to analyze and interpret large quantities of financial and statistical data; systems thinker
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent client service and satisfaction
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with strong organization and time management skills
  • Skill in accurately performing detailed numerical computations in a timely manner using large amounts of financial and/or statistical data
  • Sound professional judgment, initiative, and the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of computer application accounting systems & software applications, preferably in a Microsoft Office environment (i.e., Excel, SharePoint, Word, Access)
