About Us
Legislative Television (LTV), established in 1991 is responsible for the broadcast of the proceedings of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Under the direction of the Speaker, LTV is responsible for the broadcast of the proceedings of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the recording of all legislative debates, committees, and commissions of the legislature for delivery to Hansard for transcription, and the platforms for all virtual meetings of the Legislature.
Legislative Television also provides audio-video production services for Members of the Legislative Assembly and government departments/agencies.
About Our Opportunity
As the Broadcast Audio Specialist, you will be responsible for the uninterrupted broadcast and archival recording of high-quality audio, and the operation and support of the virtual platform for the Nova Scotia House of Assembly Legislative proceedings, including but not limited to Legislative committees, special events and press briefings.
Primary Accountabilities
Some of the primary accountabilities in the role include:
- Planning, design, and equipment selection of broadcast audio and IT systems for multiple venues. Maintenance and troubleshooting of all audio equipment including proprietary networked digital audio conference hardware (Shure DIS Conference systems), network infrastructure, computer systems used in the broadcasting, recording and virtual operation of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, its committees, public ceremonies, and press events.
- Working directly with the Broadcast Video Specialist to plan, prepare, and maintain the platform (currently Zoom) for the virtual operation of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, its committees, special events, and press briefings.
- Maintaining operation manuals, wiring schematics and cable/equipment database for multiple venues.
- Ensuring archived audio integrity is maintained along with historical recordings from obsolete proprietary systems for recall by Hansard.
- Maintaining multiple complete portable audio systems and planning for business continuity support.
- Providing audio operation, consulting, design, and maintenance services to the executive and other government departments.
In this role you will report to the Manager of Legislative Television.
Qualifications and Experience
This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a 2 year Audio Production of Broadcast Production course; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.
This position requires a depth knowledge of audio acoustic principals, sound systems and their implications within challenging and historical environment and requires research into broadcast technology trends and industry best practices.
You work well under pressure, identify, and solve problems involving several variables under tight guidelines. You have an ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, wiring diagrams, operations and maintenance instructions, procedure modules etc.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions
Work in a broadcast control room and or locations within and outside of government offices.
Will be required to lift and or move up to 25kg.
Will require irregular hours, shift times, and/or on-call status.

Pay Grade: TE 16 - TE 22
Salary Range: $1,676.67 - $2,487.23 Bi-Weekly
