Cenovus is currently recruiting for an Operations Senior Supervisor at our Minnedosa Ethanol Plant. Reporting to the Ethanol Plant Manager, this position will be responsible for improving on-stream time and maximizing production with a focus on executing activities in a timely, effective & safe manner.
The incumbent will be highly motivated with a strong safety commitment focusing on facility key performance indicators (KPIs), managing operating costs and budgets, providing leadership and mentorship to all levels of staff as well as building and maintaining both internal and external relationships.
This is a full-time position located at the Minnedosa Ethanol Plant and requires the successful candidate to live in the Minnedosa area.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that all facility operation activities are carried out in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner while following all health, safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Lead the effort to build a strong safety culture in the team as well as serve as a key member of the site's HSE Steering Team. Accountable to ensure all facility inspections, audits and exercises are completed.
  • Ensure safety in the operating plant by upgrading Standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and training amongst the ethanol operators.
  • Provide leadership to effectively manage workforce and maximize team effectiveness. Coach and mentor direct and indirect reports and provide regular feedback through one-on-one meetings, observations in the workplace, and in meetings.
  • Lead and/or participate in Incident Investigations, Briefs, De-briefs and Critiques and ensure lessons learned are managed and distributed within the Facility and Business Unit if necessary.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of all operations records (e.g., volume balances, log sheets, work permits, and required reports). Develop and communicate plant status reports as required.
  • Participate and/or lead Emergency response exercises or Emergency response situations as required.
  • Liaison with the Lead Inspector to coordinate repairs and inspections of piping and equipment in the Power House and on related equipment.
  • Coordinate all Boiler and steam related issues as well as Power Engineer issues, with the Inspection and Technical Services of Manitoba.
  • Develop, champion, and communicate department objectives in support of plant and business objectives. Lead performance reviews and assist personnel with goal development.
  • Develop Annual Operations production budget, reports on costs, address variances and develop remedial actions.
  • Develop and implement measures to improve plant processes performance, plant on stream time, production rates and manufacturing costs. Implements effective practices to improve onstream time and capacity utilization.
  • Primary interface with corporate support groups such as Trading, Supply and Logistics as well as external stakeholders.
  • Cenovus Operations Integrity Management System (COIMS) function Leader for Elements 5 (Operating and maintenance procedures, policies and standards), and Element 9 (Safe control of work) & 12 (Safe operating envelopes).
  • Plan and coordinate timely and effective downtime activities partnering with Maintenance & Engineering Planning Group.
  • Manage multiple conflicting priorities and complex problems while consistently meeting deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • 1st Class Power Engineering Certification is required. Candidates with 2nd class certification and significant progress completed towards their 1st Class Certificate may be considered.
  • Minimum 10 years’ Operations experience in an industrial setting (Ethanol Operations preferred)
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required
  • This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to the relevant requirements of the Cenovus Drug and Alcohol policy which includes pre-assignment testing
  • Experience with the following would be an asset:
    • Leadership/supervisory experience in an industrial setting
    • Applicable acts and codes pertaining to Power Engineer and Boiler Operation.
    • Provincial Safety and Health regulations
    • Cost control and variance analysis
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Solid understanding of safety and regulatory standards and procedures
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint.)
  • Skilled level of understanding on regulatory and safety standards and procedures i.e. equipment isolation, safe work permitting and hazard analysis.
  • Possess strong mechanical aptitude skills and solid understanding of operating equipment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills
