Senior Field CNC Service Technician (Electrical and/or Mechanical and/or Applications)
SMS Machine Tools Ltd “SMS” is looking for a talented Senior CNC Service Technician to work with clients to provide quality field service and to ensure we exceed our customer’s needs.
The Senior Field CNC Service Technician is the face of our service department, and will build strong relationships with our customers, partners and service providers to ensure clients receive the best care possible.
SMS is currently looking for an Electrical Technician, Mechanical Technician, and an Applications Technician. The idea candidate would possess qualities relating to all three of these disciplines, but candidates with solid foundations in any one of these will also be considered.

Responsibilities:
- Service CNC lathes, mills, grinders and boring mills at customer locations throughout Ontario
- Complete start up and commissioning of new equipment, troubleshooting equipment failures and conducting routine maintenance
- Evaluate on-site installations to diagnose and troubleshoot CNC machines
- Repair all makes and models of CNC equipment offered by SMS Machine Tools
- Provide training to customers on the use and operation of new machines
- Proactively engage customers and achieve positive service outcomes through exceptional customer service
- Provide a communication link between the customer and SMS Machine Tools.
- Create and develop procedural documentation.
- Support the Sales Team on a rotational basis (provide technical phone and in-person support)
- Submit weekly service, milage and expense reports
Qualified Candidates should present a professional image, be a team player and a self-starter, and have:
- Electrical/Electronics or Mechanical Technology diploma is preferred.
- 5+ years in a technical role, including experience in installation, diagnostics and service of CNC Machining centers
- Knowledge and experience working with and programming Fanuc controls highly desirable.
- 5+ years experience with Vertical Mills, Boring Mills, Horizontal Machining centers, Lathes and Grinders
- Prior experience repairing and/or rebuilding equipment or machines other than machine tools is a plus
- Previous experience verifying machine alignments
- Experience installation and repairing Rotary Tables on a machine tool is a plus
- Strong mechanical and electrical skills with the ability to read and understand technical documents, electrical schematics and assembly drawings (such as hydraulic and ladder diagrams) is required
- Excellent communication and customer relation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must
- Rational decision making ability
- Willingness to travel weekly to customer sites located throughout Ontario
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $62,000.00-$71,000.00 per year
