This Competition will also be used for additional Community vacancies with Regional Services.

These positions’ recruitment is a collaborative initiative between several Yukon First Nations and the Ministry of Health and Social Services. These positions are based in the communities but may be asked to provide services to children and families in other communities from where the position is based. The Regional Social Workers will work closely with the First Nation’s Health Director. Housing, through Yukon Housing Corporation, is available in all communities, except Haines Junction. there are some private housing options available if the successful candidate wishes to explore them.

Support the Department of Health and Social Services and Family and Children's Services Branch to make a difference in Yukon and provide a range of support to families and children within Yukon communities.

The Family and Children's Services Branch is responsible for territory wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

As a Regional Social Worker, your primary role will deliver Child Protection and Intervention. On occasion you maybe called upon to support the delivery of Social Assistance, Adult Protection and Youth Justice Services throughout Yukon communities. In this role, you will make a positive difference in the lives of children and families within Yukon communities where the population can vary between several hundred and 4000.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications – specifically – how your work experiences and related duties align with the essential qualifications shown below. Please note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Bachelor of Social Work; and,
  • Social work experience and/or practicum in providing services, to families. Preference will be given to individuals that have some prior experience in delivering Child Protection/Intervention services,
  • Experience working in remote communities and indigenous cultural competency would be an asset to this role

NOTE: If your Bachelor of Social Work degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through any members of the Alliance of Credentials Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC)

Candidates who are currently students in a Bachelor of Social Work program, who can demonstrate the essential qualifications through internships, practicums, cooperative and voluntary placements, and that have verification of graduation in 2022 or early 2023 may be considered.


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Demonstrated interest in rural Yukon social work;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment with an emphasis on Yukon First Nation's culture; Strong knowledge and experience in social work principles and practices in child welfare and Case management;
  • Demonstrates interest in child and family services including child protection;
  • Sound ethical decision making and judgement skills that demonstrates the capacity to complete family, children and individual assessments at a professional level;
  • Excellent decision making skills and practice guided by the Canadian Association of Social Work Code of Ethics;
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and professional partnerships that demonstrates a professional level of written and oral communication;
  • Ability to take a broad-based, strategic approach to community development in response to mandated client service;
  • Ability to prepare affidavits or court documents and intervention services including investigations and core protection services; and,
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Additional Information



Conditions of Employment:

  • Vulnerable Sector RCMP security clearance,
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent,
  • Verification of Bachelor of Social Work; and,
  • Demonstrate the potential to be delegated within 12-months of hire under the Child and Family Services Act.

Job Requirements:

  • Work in rural communities
  • Extensive travel is required
  • Provide coverage for other workers as needed
  • Frequent evening, weekend and statutory holiday work hours are required; and,
  • Occasionally involvement in situations involving angry, abusive or abused clients and may be exposed to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children who are in crisis.
