The Crown Debt Collections (CDC) team in TRA, provides collection services to Alberta Government Ministries. Includes management of contracts with private collection agencies; agency compliance audits, CRA Set-Off, in-house collection services for highly sensitive portfolios and paralegal services involving legal and enforcement actions.

Reporting to the Team Lead – Paralegal Services, the Recoveries and Legal Administrative Support position in Crown Debt Collections (CDC) provides a variety of collection and legal enforcement services to Government of Alberta (GoA) Ministries.

We will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your skills. In this role, the Recoveries and Legal Administrative Support will:

  • Assist with preparation of legal documentation.
  • Coordinate the creation of new accounts.
  • Register, renewal, and discharge of assigned accounts through the Alberta Personal Property Registry Electronic System (APPRES).
  • Obtain and verify information pertinent to various phases of the collection process through frequent access to Government of Alberta (GoA) Ministries databases.
  • Ensure action dates are in place to facilitate provision of timely follow-up on all legal requirements throughout the garnishee process.
  • Provide basic administrative supports to the Collections team.
  • Oversee the receipt and distribution of payments received and requests cheques necessary to comply with the Civil Enforcement Act relating to issuance of Garnishee Summonses.


This position works with a diverse audience including Management, Team Leads, and stakeholders both internal and external to government. Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks will assist you in being successful in this role.

Qualifications

High school diploma and two years of related experience:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets for this role include:

  • Post-secondary education in Administration
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office – mainly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience in a civil litigation/civil enforcement environment
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court, civil court procedures, and legislation pertaining to civil litigation in a collections environment

Salary

$1,729.71 to $2,113.42 bi-weekly
($45,145.43 to $55,160.26 annually)

Notes

This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

This position will be located Downtown Edmonton, AB.
