Pressure Boundary Specialist Job at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories
INTRO
The Pressure Boundary Program provides support, monitoring and oversight of nuclear and non-nuclear pressure boundary program activities at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL). This includes the ongoing assessment of compliance with regulatory and technical requirements for the modification, repair and replacement of pressure boundary systems and components, and maintenance of the program governing documentation.
The Pressure Boundary (PB) Specialist role is to assist the Pressure Boundary Program Authority in executing the mandate of the Pressure Boundary Functional Support Area, and to provide support and guidance to CNL staff in the application of the applicable Pressure Boundary Program requirements. The PB Specialist has the responsibility for planning and executing surveillance of Pressure Boundary activities to ensure compliance with specified work requirements.
DUTIES
- The Pressure Boundary Specialist is required to modify established governing manuals and procedures, devise new and streamlined solutions, assess compliance with technical requirements, determine applicable acceptance criteria, and recommend corrective actions and alternate solutions to pressure boundary issues.
- Perform the author role for various functional level procedures, ensuring requirements are adequately captured.
- Perform the reviewer role for various line and other functional area implementation procedures, ensuring program requirements are adequately captured.
- Act to continuously improve the program. Based on staff input, audit findings, trends, and observations develop improvements and identify process efficiencies.
- This position acts as the single point of contact for the program and regularly interfaces with various organizations including design, procurement, maintenance, operations, quality assurance, safety engineering, D&WM, R&D, and projects.
- Perform regular field oversight activities to ensure requriements are being properly implemented.
- Interface with various line organizations to understand any challenges and to act upon suggested improvements to existing processes.
- Provide input into pressure boundary activities and projects being performed on site.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
Experience
- Working knowledge of CNL’s organizational structure, work processes and technology, Management System, CSA-N286 series of standards, ISO 9001:2000, and CSA Z299 standards.
- Knowledge, experience and training in requirements of applied codes and standards (CSA N285.0, CSA B51, and ASME NQA-1, and ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code).
Abilities and Skills
- High level of energy and be able to function independently in the technical area(s).
- Proven initiative and motivation, and good people skills to work with peers as well as both internal and external customers in a team environment.
- Experience in delivery of training and presentations would be an asset.
- Proficiency in both written and oral communications is required.
- Must be proficient in MS Office software used by CNL.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- A good team player with strong commitment to maintain quality principles and objectives.
Job/ Industry Specific Knowledge
- Experience in QA surveillance and auditing activities.
- Familiar with CNL Facilities and systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and inspection/dimensional reports.
- Experience interfacing with jurisdictional and regulatory authorities, and other such bodies, is an asset.
