The Optical Transport Development & Integrity (Transport DevOps) team at TELUS sets the standards, rolls out new technology and provides the expertise to help operate the fastest optical networks in the most efficient and reliable way for our customers across Canada.


As a Network Specialist you will join the ranks of Transport Integrity and will be responsible for providing support for root cause analysis, network studies, design and troubleshooting expertise during network events. You will also work closely with the Transport Development side of the team, as new services and technologies are readied for production, helping to prepare people and systems for their deployment.



What you’ll do


  • Proactively analyze the performance of our national optical networks and their equipment to find potential issues or opportunities for improvements
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of our national transport networks
  • Support product delivery and turn-up of new services via FOA, ops readiness, and training activities
  • Run network trials and proof of concepts for cutting edge optical, and synchronization technology
  • Stay current with the changing environment, technologies, and platforms supported

Qualifications


What you bring


  • Technical diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience in Ciena transport platforms, such as 6500-S, 5400, or SONET based, and Fujitsu FLASHWAVE transport platforms and related network controllers
  • Experience with provisioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting DWDM, CWDM, passive optical, CDC, OTN, and SONET based services
  • Proficient in using CircuitVision, MyWorld, NetCracker, Remedy, NuCool and related information and ticketing systems
  • Ability to handle challenging situations

Great-to-haves


  • University degree in a related engineering discipline
  • Experience with synchronization technologies and system architecture
  • A background in legacy TDM-based transport/DACS/access platforms and related protocols
  • Working with Linux-based systems, CLI-based tools, and scripting
