Museum Interpreters

The Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society is seeking 3 Museum Interpreters to join our team for the summer at the GFW Heritage Centre. The positions are for 35 hours per week for a duration of 8 weeks at an hourly rate of $14.50. These positions are funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The start date will be July 3rd, 2023. The ideal candidates will support all aspects of the Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society’s operations, with the primary responsibility of welcoming and providing guided interpretive tours of our centre to visitors.

Requirements:

• At least 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period

• No more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period

• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee

• Have a valid SIN and be legally entitled to work in Canada

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to work both independently and as a team

• Attention to detail and accuracy in recording information

Schooling or prior experience in Museum Studies, History, or related fields is considered an asset but not required.

Job Description:

Museum interpreters will be expected to greet and welcome visitors to the Heritage Centre. They will acquire a strong understanding of the history of Grand Falls-Windsor and provide interpretive tours of our Centre to visitors. They will familiarize themselves with our collections including artifacts, photographs, archival materials and books, and respond to request for information. As we also serve as the local Visitor Information Centre, our summer staff will also assist tourists with questions about nearby amenities. When not interacting with visitors, museum interpreters will assist with organizing and maintaining displays and information, and assist us in the cataloguing, documenting, and digitization of our collection. Finally, they will assist in the planning and implementation of events, programs, and projects.
