About the Role
CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally- safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle – mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.
CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.
Job Description
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure success in the area of clinical service delivery. Patients include children, youth and families primarily residing on Alexander, Enoch Cree, Paul and Alexis Sioux Nakoda Nations, as well as in an urban context.
The Mental Health Therapist provides timely mental health assessment and treatment to preschoolers, children and adolescents using an Indigenous culturally-informed practice lens.
The Mental Health Therapist adheres to the code of ethics and practice standards of their specific discipline, and applies the principles of evidence-informed practice to all aspects of this work. The Mental Health Therapist nurtures collaborative relationships with community partners.
The Mental Health Therapist will:
- Develop treatment plans that are Indigenous and trauma-informed.
- Work with spiritual elders and other knowledge keepers in developing appropriate care plans.
- Give clear direction and supervise work of Therapy Support Navigators.
- Facilitate parent psycho-education groups when indicated.
- Provide psycho-education sessions on general mental health topics.
- Carry out case management functions including: convening case conferences, liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the child and family (in particular education, social services, justice and health).
- Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate.
- Be an active, contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team whose purpose is assessment, treatment, case review and consultation.
- Follow agency policy and practice regarding admission, discharge and maintenance of health records.

Qualifications
- Graduate degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or nursing.
- A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
- Must be a member in good standing with their respective professional association/college.
- Strong knowledge or desire to learn about Indigenous culture, spirituality and its application to mental wellness practices.
- Direct knowledge of First Nation community practices and protocols is an asset.
- Ability to establish relationships based on cultural respect and spiritual practice within Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge and proficiency with an Indigenous language is an asset.
- Strong advocate for Indigenous children and families.
- Respect for other disciplines and an ability to work collaboratively with diverse interest groups
