Hospital Housekeeper Job at Ministry of the Solicitor General
The Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre with the Ministry of the Solicitor General is seeking an experienced individual to provide full cleaning services at the correctional facility.
Please note that this position will be working afternoon shifts from 13:00 hours to 21:30 hours and is irregular on call, working 0-40 hours per week with the opportunity for overtime.

What can I expect to do in this role?
- Perform physical cleaning services such as operating heavy duty industrial cleaning equipment and platform lifts
- Daily supervision of selected inmate helpers/workers to perform cleaning tasks
- Maintain premises by cleaning, mopping, vacuuming, dusting offices, corridors, washing woodwork and tilesand other various cleaning related duties utilizing appropriate solutions/methods
- Perform general services such as separating recyclable materials and unloading supplies from trucks
- Maintain records and security of cleaning supplies and requesting management to order replacement supplies
How do I qualify?
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
- You have extensive knowledge of and experience with a variety of cleaning methods as well as use of industrial cleaning equipment (such as floor polishers, vacuum cleaners, etc.)
- You have knowledge of infection prevention and control practices
- You have knowledge of workplace health and safety including WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- You can understand and comply with institutional security policies and procedures in order to maintain safety and security of the work area and offender helpers
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- You are able to supervise and instruct inmate helpers
- You can convey information about the safe use, care and storage of cleaning agents and solvents
- You can caution others regarding wet floors, obstructions where cleaning is taking place, and report hazards
- You have writing skills to maintain records of cleaning materials and supplies
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
- You can determine the type of cleaning agent used for various cleaning tasks
- You can determine daily priorities
- You are able to identify shortages in supplies as well as recognize equipment problems or need for maintenance
- You can recognize security and workplace hazards so that corrective action can be prompt

Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated' under the Employer's policy and will be required to attend a vaccine education program, as determined by the Employer. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program. All employees working in congregate living settings must undergo regular rapid antigen testing, regardless of vaccination status.
