We are looking to employ entry level positions of Refractory maintenance, on site at Rio Tinto Kitimat in the Anode Baking Furnace. The positions are labour oriented within a team environment. To be successful any candidate must maintain the utmost commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain furnace with Refractory tools and materials
• Enter confined spaces that may expose individuals to thermal extremes
• Handle and transport materials (e.g. cement, mortar) and equipment (e.g. air movers, work carts)
• Assist crane operators in lifting and maneuvering large scale equipment in the building
• Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks
• Working from heights in contained baskets (up to 20ft)
• Help with setting up and transferring work station (maintenance platform, safety equipment, etc.)
• Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions

Requirements

• Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 50lbs etc.)
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus
• Communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to safety rules
• Apprenticeship or specialization in bricklaying is an asset, not necessary

Wages based on Trades Union (Bricklayers and Allied Crafts Workers Local #2) collective agreement. Training rate (first 100hrs at $21.37/hr)
