Food Safety Specialist, Term
Scope:
Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC) is seeking a Food Safety Specialist. The Food Safety Specialist is responsible for making recommendations for the development and maintenance of EFC’s On-Farm Food Safety Programs (OFFSP). Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Food Safety Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and making recommendations for developing food safety programs, liaising with multilevel stakeholders and working with the CFIA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead discussions at Board appointed committees related to On-Farm Food Safety Program (OFFSP) matters and responds to action items
- Liaise with multiple external stakeholders, egg boards, CFIA, and industry stakeholders
- OFFSP Development and maintenance (including shell eggs and pullets)
- Ensure that it is technically sound and meets CFIA review requirements
- Provide continuous quality improvement by recommending changes to the program
- Develop commodity specific training material for OFFSP delivery agents and auditors
- Monitor Federal Government Acts and Regulations that affect OFFSP
- Ensure proper implementation of the OFFSP General Management system component:
- Food Safety Program Specialist
- Document Control Specialist
- SC-SCÔ Program Designer
- Provide recommendations to HACCP team for continuous program improvements
- Lead HACCP team meetings, development of agenda, and overall administration of meetings, memos and materials
- Conduct internal audits of egg boards and delivery agents to determine uniformity across Canada
- Take part in Working Groups concerning various subjects such as National strategy for the Control of Poultry-related Human Salmonella enteritidis illness in Canada and Pathogen Reduction Initiatives
- Maintain and develop Bio-Security Protocols
- Monitor and maintain salmonella protocols
Qualifications/Skills:
General knowledge of the following:
- CFIA Food Safety Enhancement Program and CFIA OFFS Recognition Program
- Codex Alimentarius and HACCP
- Principles of auditing
- Strong communication skills that demonstrate tact and diplomacy
- Strong business writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, take initiative and be results-oriented
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Education and Experience:
- 1 – 3 years of experience in agriculture, poultry/food science or a relevant field
- Experience in on-farm food safety is an asset
