The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

FIELD TECHNICIAN

The Field Technician assists with and performs field related activities pertaining to grade control, sampling, transportation and material tracking.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

Assist and provide support to the Côté Gold geological team.

• Collect samples from Reverse Circulation drills and Production drills for grade control program.
• Organize, dispatch and complete chain of custody for dispatching samples to laboratories.
• Organize, receive and store returning samples from laboratories.
• Safe operation of flatbed field trucks / telehandler following Côté Gold safety standards while operating around active mining areas.
• Assist Geology team with in-field ore block markups.
• Keep track of inventory of supplies.
• Maintain, wash and clean light vehicles as required.
• Maintain, wash and clean survey, drill and blast and geology tools and equipment as required.

Operational excellence.

• Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
• Continually seek to improve skills.
• Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
• Ensure problems and inefficiencies are shared with others.
• Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Registration in a geology / geological engineering program at university or college is considered an asset.

Work experience - Nature & Length

• A minimum of 3 months of related work experience.
• Previous experience in mining (specifically open pit mining) is considered an asset.

Additional qualifications - Competency requirements

• Ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions, such as cold, snow, rain, heat, etc.
• Ability to operate a telehandler.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20kg (44lbs)
• Basic computer skills.
• Good observational and analytical skills.
• Good written and oral communication.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Standard First and CPR certification is considered an asset.
• Surface Miner Common Core is considered an asset
