The Region of Peel serves almost 1.5 million residents in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon. We deliver a wide range of resident-focused services across the Region. In 2022, Peel continues to face perhaps the biggest challenge in its history – community response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Together with the Health System and our community partners, we are leading the urgent ongoing delivery of vaccines to Peel residents.

Volunteers provide valuable support to the Region of Peel in the delivery of the COVID-19 mass vaccination program. Volunteers help augment the Health System's capacity, while gaining valuable skills and personal development in the process. The Region of Peel takes great pride in the efforts of all volunteers for their commitment to provide this valuable, essential support.

This is an onsite unpaid COVID-19 vaccination clinic volunteer position with the Region of Peel. You must be able to show proof of double vaccination in order to volunteer at our vaccination clinics.

  • To support the Regional staff with the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccination at community clinics throughout Peel.
  • To help save lives, protect health system capacity and minimize the impacts of COVID-19 on the community.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Welcome clients and monitor line-ups to maintain physical distancing.
  • Set-up/take down of mobile clinic equipment with the assistance of other staff and volunteers.
  • If clinic is operating by calling pre-registered clients in from their vehicle or outside, performs this function.
  • Ask if client has an appointment (if clinic is appointment-based).
  • Screen for any COVID-19 related symptoms as per the clinic screening protocols.
  • Refer clients who fail the screening protocol or have questions to the appropriate staff member.
  • Ensure clients arriving at the clinic are wearing a mask and that they clean their hand with alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Provide a mask to clients who do not have one.
  • Determine whether the client has any accessibility needs (e.g., mobility issues, sight or hearing impaired, need for a translator).
  • Direct clients to registration.
  • Facilitate crowd control and clinic flow.
  • Wipe down frequently touched surfaces.
  • Ensure that signage is in place and visible.
  • Directs clients who have registered to the next available Immunizer.
  • Ensures clients waiting in line for the next Immunizer are physically distanced with the aid of markings on the floor indicating where to stand and/or where chairs are placed to sit.
  • Promote and support clients to complete the client experience survey.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills, keyboarding and data entry skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-directed and able to multitask and prioritize within fast paced environment.
  • Excellent time management, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks associated with position.

Volunteer Expectations:

  • Complete the MOHLTC Health Screening tool before your volunteer shift.
  • Provide proof of 2 doses COVID Vaccination.
  • Maintain confidentiality within parameters defined by Health Services, Volunteer Resources.
  • Adhere to the latest COVID-19 Peel Public Health recommendations and guidelines as well as follow specific health and safety procedures as outlined in your training materials.
  • Read and review all training materials provided.
  • Promptly report incidences, accidents or concerns to the Clinic Lead.
  • The volunteer must not provide medical/counselling advice to clients.
  • If concerns or complex needs arise, volunteers should escalate these to the Clinic Lead.
  • Conduct self in professional manner at all times.
  • Log volunteer hours on the online volunteer database, detailed instructions will be provided (where applicable).

Age Minimum:

  • 16 years old.

Hours:

  • A minimum of 1 shift per week is preferred.
  • 4-hour shifts, various shifts available, 7 days a week depending on clinic schedule.

Location/Transportation:

  • Clinics are throughout Peel.
  • Volunteers are required to organize their own transportation.

Orientation/Training:

  • General orientation to the Region of Peel, Health Services Volunteer program.
  • Self study training manual.
  • Task-specific onsite orientation by Clinic Staff.
