The Business Development and Sales Lead is accountable for the performance of the business development and sales activities for their respective portfolio in support of NAIT’S purpose and mission. Reporting to the Director of the Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation (CAMS), this position works closely with the Associate Dean of Industry Engagement and the Health Innovation Partnership Platform (HIPP) Project Coordinator. This position also serves as an advisor to the School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS) leadership team and is responsible for providing leadership of SHLS business development and sales activities.
The Business Development and Sales Lead will also work closely with Industry Solutions (IS) to enable the success, sustainability and continued collaboration across their portfolio. The successful Business Development and Sales Lead is customer focused, collaborative, drives results, instills trust and has a strong business insight. Success in this role will depend on the ability to strengthen existing and create new partnerships that strategically support the business goals and objectives of SHLS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the performance of their respective portfolio, which in turn is tied to the financial contributions to SHLS, IS, and NAIT
- Responsible for:
- Developing the BD/S business and strategic plans for their portfolio to ensure that new and existing opportunities for revenue growth are maximized in relation to continuous generation of new opportunities that serve the needs of industry
- Securing significant sources of external funding for their portfolio
- Providing leadership for their portfolio regarding government liaison activities, industry consultation, deal flow, proposal writing negotiations as well as contract review
- Leading strong collaboration within the BD/S team and the Operations and Project Management teams of SHLS as well as other external facing units within NAIT (Advancement, Schools, Conference and Events, etc.)
- Institutional service – representing SHLS on various NAIT committees and industry working groups, as well as relevant Industry Advisory Boards/Committees
- Representation of SHLS on various industry-relevant task groups, working groups or associations
- Daily face-to-face, telephone, and e-mail interactions with current, past, or potential new industry clients
- Meet with Sr. Leadership of SHLS and IS as well as: Marketing and Communications, HR, Finance, Legal, ITS and various program leadership to discuss business opportunities, obstacles, resource concerns, achievements, etc.
- In conjunction with the Associate Dean Industry Engagement, CAMS Director and SHLS leadership team, the Lead is responsible for determining the annual revenue projection/target for their portfolio and the related activities achieving those revenues. The Lead will also have a role in determining the budget of individual projects, which is required to send out proposals/quotes
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and presentation skills.
- Experience and developed network in the Alberta innovation ecosystem, particularly in health innovation
- Research, benchmarking, statistical analysis, and design best practices
- Leadership and negotiation skills as well as coaching and motivational techniques
- Financial and budgeting principles
- Project management, Change Management techniques and principles
- Sales pipeline management and market strategies (including social media strategies)
- Communication skills, both oral and written, to represent NAIT in discussions with industry
- Microsoft Office Suite systems application
- Tact, Diplomacy and Professionalism
Qualifications:
- Minimum formal education is a Bachelors degree. A major in Business Administration, Finance or Management is preferred.
- Outside sales representative / sales account manager experience preferred.
- International sales and international market experience is an asset.
- Extensive and relevant work experience.
- Equivalencies may be considered.
Remuneration: $3,281.61 – $4,347.73 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
