Assistant, Outreach (Seasonal position) Job at Crimson Coast Dance Society
This is a Canada Summer Jobs position for a term of up to 16-weeks. You must be 16 to 30 years of age to qualify and the position is dependent on funding.
Crimson Coast Dance is a contemporary dance performance company operating on the traditional, ancestral lands of the Snuneymuxw people. We seek two summer student positions that will each play an important role in our Annual Dance Festival, InFrinGing: Assistant, Production Planning, and Assistant, Outreach. This job posting describes the position Assistant, Outreach.
The primary focus for this position is in support of outreach efforts that build community engagement and promotion opportunities to market InFrinGinG Dance Festival. Under the guidance of the Director, Operations and working closely with the Marketing & Fundraising Coordinator, the assistant contributes to a successful Festival through audience growth, volunteer and front-of-house coordination, and supporting the relevancy and reputation of the organization through partnerships.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant, Outreach responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Assisting in the identification and coordination of InFrinGing Dance Festival marketing tactics;
- Creating promotional footage for social media;
- Developing and executing a volunteer recruitment campaign;
- Scheduling volunteers, and providing orientation, overseeing volunteers tasks during the Festival;
- Acting as a liaison between volunteers and staff;
- Identifying and negotiating opportunities for business and community participation in InFrinGinG Dance Festival, such as soliciting In-Kind contributions, negotiating cross-promotional collaborations, and distributing posters and tent cards;
- Supporting in fundraising efforts, as requested;
- Assisting staff and volunteers in running the Crimson Coast Dance booth during Nanaimo’s Commercial Street Night Market each Thursday evening;
- Office administrative tasks and other duties as required, including participating in team meetings, and developing reports;
- All activities will comply with Health Authority Restrictions and Guidelines. Work may take place remotely and onsite.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:

- This position requires strong interpersonal skills. You must enjoy talking with people, approaching businesses without introduction, and developing relationships;
- A strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing deadlines;
- A desire to learn marketing and fundraising skills within the performing arts;
- Ability to work as a member of a team, with respect and accountability;
- Experience in a role that requires customer engagement and customer service;
- Experience coordinating the work of others, and leading people (volunteer experience in this skill is okay).

Crimson Coast Dance (CCD) is a non-profit Society celebrating over 25 years of developing and supporting contemporary and cultural dance creations, productions, performances, and educational opportunities at both grass roots and professional levels in Central Vancouver Island. Along with this programming we produce the signature fundraising initiative; Wee Tipple: Nanaimo’s Whisk(e)y Festival.
