The City of Orillia has an opening for a full-time position of Supervisor, Orillia Recreation Centre in the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department.

DUTIES

  • Develop policies, implement procedures and training to ensure public and staff safety pertaining to utilizing building system components techniques.
  • Coordinate operations and maintenance on a day-to-day basis at the ORC.
  • Supervise staff, direct work activities and foster a positive team approach. Assist with motivating employees. Provide guidance to staff to ensure they are properly trained in all ORC functions and operations.
  • Manage staff by setting performance standards, creating work schedules, assigning, and approving of overtime and scheduling vacation, conducing performance appraisals and recommending merit and step increases. Implement disciplinary action when appropriate and receive first step of grievances.
  • Respond to inquiries, handle and resolve complaints, and deal with the public and user groups in a courteous and efficient manner to promote a high standard of public relations.
  • Ensure compliance with required standards established by the Ministry of Labour, Ontario Fire Code, Federal and Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontarians with Disabilities Act, etc.Ensure operation of the aquatic’s facility is in compliance with Health Unit requirements; necessary logbook entries and records completed and retained.
  • Develop and oversee preventative maintenance work orders and asset maintenance tracking for the facility; ensure all necessary records and documentation are completed and retained as required.Oversee the smooth operation of the ORC by ensuing all contracts for services and products are created, maintained and adhered to.
  • Prepare and control expenditures as approved in the annual operating and capital budgets. Conduct research, make recommendations and assist in purchasing.
  • Assist in management coverage at other Recreation Facilities, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Degree, College Diploma or equivalent certifications in Recreation and Leisure or Facility Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years’ experience at a management level in a municipal recreation setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of Public Pools including design, operations and maintenance including holding a certification as Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
  • Qualifications in one or more of the following areas: Registered Recreation Facility Administrator, Certified Ice Technician (CIT), Building Management and Operations considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience working in compliance with the relevant Federal and Provincial legislated Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as Fire Code, Building Code, Occupiers, Electrical Safety Authority, TSSA, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory, judgment, initiative, written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent employee and customer relation skills; experience with volunteer and community organizations.
  • A willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and the internet.
  • A valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s licence with an acceptable driver’s abstract and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense, prior to the start date.

Compensation for this position is $85,021 to $99,463 (2023 rates) based on a 40-hour work week plus a comprehensive benefits package. Applications will be accepted until January 4th, 2023 at noon.
