Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of TriSummit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia’s lower Peace River, west central, and north coast regions. PNG’s western transmission line extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George along the Highway 16 and Highway 37 south corridors to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing transportation and gas services to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the Province’s northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd. provides gas transmission and distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.

Reporting to the Manager, Operations West, this position is to be located in one of our regional offices. The Superintendent of Pipeline Operations is responsible for the overall safe and efficient operation of PNG’s Compression, Measurement, and Pipeline Operations Teams in PNG’s western region.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, Coordinate & supervise the operation of the company’s Pipeline Operations department (Compression, Measurement, and Pipeline Operators).
  • Coordinate & supervise the operation of the company’s communications (SCADA and Radio) activities.
  • Provide direction, and be responsible for all aspects of Pipeline Operations, including the coordination of project outages, pressure reductions, intrusive maintenance all while maintaining gas supply to PNG customers.
  • Direct supervision of up to 15 employees.
  • Assist with budget development for Pipeline Operations (Compression, Measurement, and Pipeline Operators) and monitor the cost, including reporting on variances monthly.
  • Coordination of training requirements for Pipeline Operations (Compression, Measurement, and Pipeline Operators). personnel.
  • Prepare detailed monthly reports including current and emerging issues, status of ongoing projects, progress towards objectives, and plans for the next month.
  • Emergency preparedness and response.
  • Relief coverage for Superintendent, Construction & Maintenance and Superintendent, Sales and Service,
  • Work as a subject matter expert on our Maximo, preventative, and maintenance program
  • Perform probationary, competency performance reviews of direct reports.
  • Assist in the Initiation of disciplinary investigations and reviews.

DUTIES:

  • Represents the company with respect to the Pipeline Operations department and assist in managing transmission and distribution related emergencies.
  • Assist in developing and updating policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable codes.
  • Assist in developing meaningful relationships between local area personnel, indigenous groups, and other outside agencies.
  • Coach, train, and lead people to ensure a strong safe team environment.
  • Detailed planning on approved projects from conception through to completion.
  • Ensure As-built records are accurate and complete. and project completion reports and accruals are up to date and complete.
  • Oversee budgets for the Pipeline Operations department, including maintaining and assisting with budget development, conducting budget reviews and variance analysis.
  • Initiate disciplinary action as required.
  • Benchmark best practices of other similar companies
  • Manage department Safety and Environmental initiatives.
  • Perform Manager on-call duties on a rotational basis which involves monitoring the daily gas supply, monitoring the pipeline system via the SCADA system, and dispatching employees as required.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring acceptable performance measures are in place and are actively monitored; these can include the following:

  • Safety
  • Environmental Incidents
  • Cost Control (budget variance)
  • Employee Wellness (absenteeism, AWOL, sick, etc.…)
  • System reliability
  • Productivity

Experience & Qualifications

  • Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering Technologist, Certified Millwright, Instrumentation Mechanic, Electrician, or other industry-related trade certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive industry experience, 5 years in a supervisory roll
  • Proven leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven organizational skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to travel significantly to and from outlying company locations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a highly detailed environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Approachable, flexible and able to adapt in a fluid work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills.
