Senior Mechanical Engineer – Phase III Project
Reporting to the Surface Area Manager, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible to manage key relationships with all project team members, consultants, contractors and Alamos Stakeholders to ensure consistent compliance with project plan and timely response and resolution to project changes.
The Phase III Expansion of Island Gold to 2,400 tpd from a current rate of approximately 1,200 tpd will involve various infrastructure investments. These include the installation of a shaft, paste plant, and an expansion of the mill and tailings facility. Following the completion of the shaft construction in 2025, the operation will transition from trucking ore and waste to skipping ore and waste to surface through the new shaft infrastructure, driving production higher and costs significantly lower.
As an experienced engineering professional, the Senior Mechanical Engineer can expect to cover all project components in the following functional areas: engineering, procurement and construction of the Phase III Project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide design input to engineering consultants.
- Review and develop specifications, detailed scopes of work and tender documents.
- Coordinate efforts internally within operations team during planning, design, construction, and commissioning
- Coordination and management of contractors, consultants as required.
- Project follow up: site visits, quality control, cost control and adherence to plan.
- Managing project execution schedule.
- Analysis and reporting of cost, scope and schedule status to the project team and stakeholders.
- Project dashboards for stakeholders at all levels
- Managing project timelines, tracking and performance scorecards
- Recognize project changes. Document and initiate change control management procedures to evaluate and impact changes on cost, time and scope.
- Recommend courses of action designed to maintain schedule and control project costs.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts in relation with construction projects.
- Support RFQs and RFPs process including preparation, review, analysis, and selection.
- Coaching and mentorship of younger team members;
- Provide input to scoping studies, pre-feasibility studies and feasibility studies, including completion of AFE’s and economic justifications for projects
- Participate in corporate development activities as required and other projects such as scoping and feasibility studies as required.
- Other tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 15+ years of mining or project experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for PEO registration.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent highly regarded.
- Previous consulting, EPCM or contractor experience is preferred.
- Project evaluation and management experience in construction, engineering and procurement is preferred
- Excellent knowledge of surface and underground construction methods highly regarded.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- The incumbent will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong commitment to working in a safe, socially responsible manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
- Experience with scheduling applications (Primavera P6) and project management applications would be an asset.
This position is based on Island Gold site operations working on a defined rotation schedule. Flights are available from the GTA (Skyservice Business Aviation), Sudbury and Rouyn- Noranda, QC
