Position Description
Spit for Science: Research Student Job Description (Summer 2023)
The Crosbie Lab is seeking multiple research student assistants to work on a large-scale population-based research project. In partnership with the Ontario Science Centre (OSC) and other community partners, we are conducting a study looking at genetic and environmental impacts on childhood neuropsychiatric disorders, particularly attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related medical disorders.
The research project called Spit for Science is being conducted at the Ontario Science Centre (OSC) and other community sites. The study runs 7 days a week (Sunday to Monday) and all shifts for this project will be in-person at the Ontario Science Center or other community sites. You need to be able to commute to the Ontario Science Centre for this job. Please note that this position requires weekend and some holiday shifts.
We are looking for staff who are available to work 30-35 hours per week from May to the first weekend of September. Please note that there is the potential for some of these positions to become part-time positions during the fall and winter terms for successful candidates, if interested.

- Greet and recruit participants
- Consent participants
- Supervise participants completing questionnaires
- Supervise participants completing a computer task
- Collect DNA via saliva samples
- Give brief science talks to visitors of the Ontario Science Center regarding genetics of behaviour
- Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate program
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate school in September 2023
- Must live in and around Toronto with the ability to commute and work at the Ontario Science Center or other community sites in the GTA
- Ability to work weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) and statutory holidays
- Mature, motivated
- Energetic and enthusiastic about research
- Strong interpersonal skills; cannot be afraid to interact with the public and participants
- Ability to work independently while still working on a close-knit team
- Ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment
- Experience working with children an asset
- Background in psychology or science an asset
- Experience in research is an asset
- Applicants who attend school in the GTA and are interested in working part-time with us during the fall and winter semesters are considered an asset
