WHAT’S THE JOB?
Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Cook-Medic plays a key role by executing all kitchen and first responder duties. The position is based at ROF Metals' remote Esker Site, in the James Bay Lowlands
Your key responsibilities include:
Medic:
- Attending to all first-aid, medical needs or emergencies and assisting with site evacuations, as required 24 hours/ day
- Liaising with approved medivac locations while remaining with patient until passed to higher care
- Maintaining inventory control in the first-aid room of equipment and medical supplies
- Actively participate in and support the Remote Site Emergency Response Plan
Cook:
- With the support of the Executive Chef, you will utilize a creative and appealing rotational menu with the dietary needs and tastes of the site and field crews in mind
- Preparing nutritious meals and snacks daily for up to 12 people alone or up to 40 people with the support of a Kitchen Assistant
- Adhering to safe food handling practices and supervision of the Kitchen Assistant
- Maintaining cleanliness, operational excellence and safety in the kitchen/preparation areas
- Preparing, submitting, and receiving grocery orders while staying within project budget, ensuring minimal wastage and maintaining onsite food inventory
- Actively participating in and contributing to a positive safety culture on the project while following all Outland/Horizon North and ROF Metals' Safe Work Practices and Procedures, wearing and maintaining required PPE and participating in safety meetings and training, as required
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- You have valid Advance First Responder certification (or approved equivalent) with medical oxygen training (required)
- you have a Remote Cook Certificate and/or Culinary Diploma with previous remote camp experience (required)
- It's an asset if you are Red Seal Certified!
- You have a Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate (required)
- You are a highly responsible, team-oriented person who can prioritize tasks and maintain calm in stressful situations
- You have basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (word and excel), Microsoft Teams and email proficiency (Outlook)
- You have the ability to work efficiently and productively both independently and as part of a team
- You are able to handle the following physical demands:
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders or stairs
- Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended lengths of time
- Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
- Perform work with arms at full length and with arms above shoulder height

Work Schedule and Remuneration:
Cook-Medics work rotational schedules of 2 weeks on/2 weeks off. You may be required to work weekdays, weekends and general holidays.
Wages are paid on an hourly basis. Specific pay details are discussed at the interview phase.
