Registered Practical Nurse – Medical/surgical
Permanent Part Time

Primary Duties

• Provides high quality patient-centered care to patients and their families participating in the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
• Establishes priorities based on individual patients’ needs and assigned activities, and adjusts these priorities to manage unanticipated events
• Initiates effective communication and works in close co-operation with other members of the health care team to provide optimum patient care and a safe environment that respects the rights of the client
• Develops and utilizes appropriate documentation skills to ensure continuity of patient care
• Seeks direction, support and guidance from RN in accordance with the defined scope of practice
• Establishes and maintains respectful, collaborative, therapeutic and professional relationships
• Possesses and continually acquires knowledge relevant to the professional service s/he provides through critical thinking and problem-solving
• Shares knowledge and expertise with patients/families and other professionals through a variety of teaching strategies
• Other related duties as assigned

Education & Experience

• Diploma in Practical Nursing from an applicable college
• Current unencumbered registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current certification in B.C.L.S.
• Certification in ACLS or Coronary Care 1 is preferred

Skills & Abilities

• Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to convey effective oral and written clinical information
• Ability to participate effectively and appropriately in an interprofessional health care team
• Ability to prevent, negotiate, and resolve interprofessional conflict
• Demonstrated initiative for continuing education and a willingness to participate in programs related to all aspects of nursing practice to maintain competency
