The Simcoe
County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position
of Planning Technician. Reporting to the Manager of Planning, Enrolment and
Community Use, the successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing
development, collection, maintenance, and support of the board’s Geographic
Information System (GIS) and land use development tracking system used by the
department. A key component of this
position requires coordinating, analyzing, and preparing various datasets (i.e.,
municipal development data, enrolment data etc.) for mapping to be used in
presentations, notices, research projects and other public documents, as required.
This position will assist the department in the review of municipal planning
applications and documents and will respond to mapping, accommodation and other
school board related inquiries from the public or other stakeholders. Knowledge
of relevant legislation, guidelines and other documents would be considered an
asset. The successful candidate will promote a team environment to meet
established standards for service delivery.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
University Degree or College
Diploma in Planning or a related field;
Demonstrated experience and
proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), specifically with Esri’s
ArcGIS Desktop software including ArcMap Desktop, ArcGIS Online products and
ArcGIS Pro;
Knowledge of programming and
scripting skills including HTML;
Up to six (6) months experience
is required, preferably in an education environment;
In depth knowledge of database
software management and spatial industry resources;
Knowledge of and experience
with land use and municipal planning processes considered an asset;
Pursuing or has acquired
ongoing professional development associated with GIS software and programing;
Strong organization and
communication skills are required;
A valid driver’s license and
reliable vehicle are required as this position may require travel;
Other duties as assigned.
This
is a full-time permanent position. The regular work year for this position is twelve
(12) months of the year. The compensation range for this twelve (12) month
position is $48,945 - $61,187 per year, depending on qualifications and
experience. The normal work week for this position is thirty-five (35) hours.
Participation
in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees,
even
if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.
