One of the sunniest regions in BC’s Lower Mainland, Delta embraces three unique communities – Ladner, North Delta and Tsawwassen. The City of Delta is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and share in our commitment to lead the way in public service excellence.

Would you like to be part of a vibrant local government and contribute expertise in area planning, housing, policy and bylaw development, and community engagement? Are you a service-oriented individual who likes working in a fast-paced environment? If so, the City of Delta invites you to apply for a full-time Planner 2 position.

The City of Delta is seeking an individual with at least 3-5 years of professional planning experience. This Planner 2 role is for an experienced project leader who has the capacity and drive to lead major projects. The City is seeking an enthusiastic planner who is eager to advance the work of our policy team. Key initiatives may include Area Plan updates (e.g. Scott Road Corridor Plan), Official Community Plan updates, Housing Action Plan implementation, town centre revitalization initiatives, regulatory bylaw development, development application streamlining initiatives and other projects aligned with Council priorities.

Workload is assigned based on skill-sets and departmental needs, and may also include development enquiries and/or files as needed. The ideal candidate is a team player, critical thinker, organized project manager, self-starter, and strong communicator who can represent the Department, act as a resource, prepare relevant reports and recommendations, and explain complex technical concepts and plans to non-technical individuals. In addition to a degree in an appropriate discipline and, preferably, a postgraduate degree in Planning or a related design field, ideal candidates should have:

  • in-depth understanding of community planning principles, practices, techniques and methods, and municipal planning trends;

  • experience with land development applications and processes;
  • fluency with applicable regulations, policies, by-laws and legislation; and,
  • expertise working in a local government setting or a field directly related to urban land use and development.

Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. This position requires a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
