Portage provides drug addiction rehabilitation treatment in its various centres in Atlantic Canada, Québec and Ontario.

SUMMARY

We are looking for a licensed practical nurse for a maternity leave replacement that will participate in the administration process of varied diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive procedures. He or she provides nursing and wellness care required by users. He or she will perform certain examinations and will fill out prescriptions, while collaborating with other professionals during examinations and treatment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures that all of the organization’s policies and procedures are followed and prioritizes the quality of care provided, as well as the safety and well-being of users, in all tasks performed, actions taken and documents prepared;
• Ensures that the quality of care provided is adequate and complies with the organization’s existing policies and procedures;
• Ensures that all tasks and actions performed focus on the safety and well-being of users;
• Participates in welcoming users and facilitates their integration;
• Facilitates the physical and psychological adjustment of users to the living environment;
• Ensures and monitors the user's personal hygiene and the cleanliness of their clothes;
• Collaborates in the preparation of users for consultation, radiology and laboratory tests and accompanies them as necessary;
• Performs some diagnostic procedures, such as vital signs, weight, and others;
• Participates in various activities to prepare and update the users’ care plan;
• Implements various therapeutic measures according to his or her field of competency and activities assigned;
• Notes in the user’s file the medications and treatments given, and diagnostic techniques used, as well as the relevant observations;
• Supports and implicates themselves in the prevention, safety and well-being of users;
• Participates in the execution of the occupational, recreational and social activity programs for the rehabilitation of users;
• Collects and reports to the nurse any data from users, incidents or errors occurring in the scope of his or her work;
• Fulfills any other related task at the request of his immediate supervisor.

REQUIRED PROFILE

• High school diploma with a specialization in “Health, Assistance and Nursing” or “Health Services (nursing assistant)” from a school recognized by the Ministry of Education;
• Member of the College of Nurse of Ontario (CNO);
• Have interest in or experience with clients struggling with substance abuse problems and the therapeutic community approach;
• Initiative;
• Discretion;
• Ability to analyze problems;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint;
• Excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written), French will be considered an asset;
• Ability to set priorities and manage his or her time;
• Ability to work in a team and establish interpersonal relationships;
• Oral communication skills;
• Ability to work in an intensely emotional environment.
