Job Overview
Komatsu is looking for a New Product Development (NPD) Electrician to support their new product prototyping and testing initiatives in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The NPD Electrician will be responsible for the safe electrical assembly of new underground hard rock heavy mobile equipment product prototypes and first off units using hand tools and equipment to assembly electrical harnesses, install electrical components and wire new equipment according to engineering schematics, providing feedback to project management and new product design team on concerns, issues or required changes to designs during prototype assembly, and supporting the test and validation of new products by assisting with operating function testing and prototype rework during testing.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Verify conformance of parts to stock lists or designs/blueprints.
- Perform pre-assembly activities such as as preparing wiring, checking component power.
- Perform pre-work risk assessments to ensure all potential safety risks and unknown tasks are thought through or mitigated prior to work start.
- Read and interpret designs/blueprints, sketches and written instructions as available to assemble electrical harnesses and run electrical wiring through the equipment.
- Maintain lists of missing, compromised electrical parts and components and feed information back to project management.
- Mark up designs/blueprints, sketches with corrections, changes and provide to project management for engineering review and follow through on design changes.
- Make recommendations of design changes for manufacturability, serviceability for future products or prototype improvements.
- Follows scopes of work within time constraints to meet established project assembly targets and testing targets.
- Look for faulty components during the assembly process and may be required to test assembled components or products to ensure functionality.
- Perform installation, repair, inspection, reassembly, replacing, refitting, adjusting products as required before completing final quality checks.
- Support the development of prototype electrical assembly test procedures to promote production of quality products.
- Complete any required assembly documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Licensed Electrician Journeyperson preferred or equivalent of technical certification or diploma electrical/electronics fields with mobile transportation or equipment experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years related experience with mobile transportation or equipment.
- Minimum of two (2) years electrical assembly and wiring or rebuild exposure is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and interactions with hydraulic, powertrain and other systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical designs/blueprints and schematics.
- Knowledge of IQAN programming is preferred.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment for testing is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexible, self-motivated and driven to achieve customer satisfaction goals and targets.
- Ability to work steady day shift Monday to Friday.
- Willingness to learn.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
