Who We Are:
The Public Health Intelligence division has a central role in monitoring and reporting on population health issues, identifying health disparities and emerging threats, conducting research, and advancing applied science and public health practice within the health department. Our goal is for the section's programs and services to be effective, evidence-informed and in accordance with Peel Public Health's strategic plan.

Director, Public Health Intelligence

Team Includes: (Direct) Epidemiologists, Health Analyst, Supervisor; (Indirect) - Data Coordinators & Infection Control Specialists


What You Will Do In This Role:
  • Responsible for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of policies and programs related to the IP&S section including surveillance, data management, and infection prevention and control
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Provide leadership in surveillance and response to communicable disease urgent response situations such as outbreak investigations, pandemic influenza and health hazards for the division and department
  • Ensures the strategic direction for the Corporation, Department and Division are integrated into the section including the routine reporting and measurement of these specific actions
  • Prepare and manage work plans and identify performance targets to be met
  • Develop, recommend and administer the budget for the section and ensure that the section’s expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations
  • Recruit, coach, motivate, train and evaluate reporting staff while ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources. Provide guidance on technical and human resource issues arising from operating supervisors and ensure consistent application of Regional Policies/Procedures and the Collective Agreement
  • Develop and empower staff by giving regular feedback, providing development opportunities, strategic and technical direction, and encouraging staff’s participation in key decision-making processes, where appropriate.
  • Promote a client service-oriented culture and focus within the program
  • Promote and implement evidence informed decision making within the Section and lead change management processes. Ensure that continuing education occurs to support this initiative
  • Engage with Public Health leadership to ensure that the departmental strategies, mandates, and programs are met
  • Act as a lead resource for ensuring the application of strong epidemiological methods and statistical analyses for Peel Public Health
  • Provide leadership for the development of tools and training related to Public Health Practice specifically use of data
What The Role Requires
Educational Background/ Must Haves/Bonafide Job Requirements:
  • Expert knowledge of analytical, statistical and epidemiological methods normally acquired by a M.Sc. M.H.Sc. or MPH in epidemiology or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
  • 5 years of progressive Management experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the very specialized areas of communicable diseases, epidemiology and health program planning
Skills/Abilities:
  • Expertise in change management and customer/client engagement
  • Polished interpersonal, communication, research, budget and project management skills
  • Proven leader with ability to motivate staff to produce effective results
  • Program planning experience with abilities to evaluate while managing partnerships and client relationships

  • Work Mode: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario Dr, Mississauga, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
