The Career Education team is a critical component of the Experiential Learning (EL) Hub at the University of Guelph which reports to both the Vice Provost of Student Affairs and the Associate Vice-President Academic. Reporting to the Associate Director, Career and Co-operative Education, the Manager of Career Education is an integral part of the EL Hub Leadership Team.

The Manager is engaged in leading, inspiring, and supporting a high functioning team of Career Advisors that provide quality career development programming and advising for all undergraduate, graduate students and alumni at the University. The successful candidate will hold space for ideation of team members, provide guidance that is grounded in realistic parameters and prioritize activities and projects to achieve team and unit goals. The Manager will also mentor and provide professional development support to the Career Education team as needed.

Embracing a growth mindset, the Manager of Career Education, will develop an assessment plan for the career development programming delivered by the team and create plans for a continuous improvement cycle. The incumbent will examine research and implement new programming utilizing evidence-based decision-making and successfully communicate this to our academic partners on-campus.

Requirements for this position include:

  • An Undergraduate degree in a related field along with at least three (3) years of experience working in Career Education. A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Patience, dedication, and the ability to build rapport with various stakeholders.
  • Proven strategic thinking, with the ability to execute related plans and programming while understanding the nuances of the different colleges and other parties on campus,
  • A collaborative approach to career development is an important method of leadership in this role.
  • Ability to work collegially with other managers in the unit, specifically the Managers of Co-operative Education, fostering intentional and positive working relationships between Career Advisors and Co-operative Education Coordinators
  • Knowledge of the University academic programs and procedures would be considered an asset.
