POSITION SUMMARY:

The Town of Taber Aquafun Centre is currently recruiting to fill a casual Lifeguard/Instructor I position. The ideal candidate for this position will be available to work all shifts, all year round, including days, evenings, and weekends. This position performs lifeguarding and instructional duties at the Aquafun Centre and is also responsible for providing a clean and safe environment for customers and staff. Self-motivation in a team environment as well as strong public relations and customer service skills are essential. This position fall within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 2038.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors customers and enforces facility rules & regulations.
  • Plans and instructs aquatic lessons and classes. Assesses and evaluates swimming skills in accordance with program requirements.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as injuries, distressed swimmers, power failures or fire by coordinating evacuation of facility, calling 911, and implementing life saving and first aid procedures.Collects and tests water samples for pH, chlorine, salt, etc. Calculates and interprets test results, adjusts chemicals to maintain water/chemical balance.
  • Monitors pool filtration and circulation systems by checking pressure gauges, recording readings, and backwashing water filters. Cleans bathrooms, change rooms, pool deck, scum line, handrails, etc.
  • Prepares pool area for pool programs and special events with equipment such as lane ropes, flutter boards, aquatic steps and special needs chair.
  • Maintains and updates records such as daily incident/accident reports, checklists, and procedure manuals. Maintains & repairs equipment and facility components in the aquatic centre; includes painting, locker repairs, rescue equipment, etc.
  • Participates in the workplace health and safety program, including monthly worksite and hazard inspections.
  • Performs other related duties as required such as filling chemical tanks, collecting admissions, answering phones, conducting tours, cleaning outside entrance, changing advertising board, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • National Lifeguard certification and Swimming & Lifesaving Instructor certification
  • Standard First Aid/CPR/AED
  • WHMIS or Pool Operator 1 would be an asset.
  • Ability to provide a clean Police Information Check
