Position: Labourer, Permanent Full-Time

Department: Public Works - Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY

The Labourer’s primary responsibility is to perform general labour duties on the maintenance crew. The Labourer provides assistance to all operational areas of the maintenance department and may be assigned work with other departments as required. Some duties may require successful teamwork or a strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Performs general labour including brushing, fencing, debris removal, painting, trenching, pipeline exposure, sign placement and repair etc.

- Crack sealing on paved roads within the County during summer season.
- Flagging as required.
- May be required to operate light equipment including skid steer, bobcat or mower tractor.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Brazeau County’s policies and administrative directives, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations and codes, and participates in the Health and Safety Program.
- Overtime and weekend work will be required as necessary by operational needs.
- Shift work may be implemented as required, this may include emergency response call outs.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department in order to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.

- May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.

COMPETENCY AREAS:

Education/Training:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications/Designation:

- Valid Class 5 License is required, Class 3 with Air Endorsement is an asset.
- Satisfactory Five-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract is required

Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:

- Labourer or light equipment experience is considered an asset but not required.
- A strong service focus with good verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively.
- Ability to carry out physical labor
- Ability to follow direction given by supervisory staff.
- Knowledge of road construction or maintenance is preferred

- Mechanically inclined
- Basic computer skills are required

Working Conditions:

- This position is subject to inclement weather and road conditions in all seasons.

Physical Requirements:

- Labourer activities require considerable physical effort such as moving, standing, lifting, or pulling awkward objects. Activities may involve high repetition of work such as digging or lifting.

SHIFT AND RATE OF PAY

- Grid 4A – 4D ($24.22 – $28.27)
- Designated as Permanent, Full-Time
- Hours of Work per Collective Agreement
- The probationary period applies
- Area of work encompasses the Brazeau County area
