The Engineering Department at Gastops offers the opportunity to be part of dynamic teams working on cutting-edge technologies and solving challenging problems. Gastops has built core competencies in diverse technology fields such as electromagnetics, optics and photonics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software, simulation and artificial intelligence, with a team of expert scientists and engineers and state-of-the-art facilities.
Software development at Gastops is critical to many of the competencies listed above. Gastops creates software for embedded, desktop, and web applications. These applications are at the heart of our sensor and chip analysis products, provide critical maintenance information to our customers, and support and streamline our internal production processes.
Based in Ottawa, Ontario, the Jr. Software Developer will report to the Team Lead, Software & Simulation within the Engineering Department and will have a wide range of duties with a focus on developing, testing, and supporting desktop and web-based applications.
What You’ll Do:
The Jr. Software Developer will be part of our Engineering team with a primary focus on designing, implementing, and qualifying software used in our products and services. You will:
· Work with various Business Units, Application Engineers, and Customer Support Representatives to ensure that product requirements are understood and embodied in our software products
· Implement software for new products and product updates using a variety of programming languages (including C#, VB .NET, Python, PHP, and JavaScript, as required)
· Conduct software verification and qualification testing
· Conduct investigations to identify and resolve software issues
· Support the development of proposals for new projects

Who You Are:
· Graduate of a Computer Science degree or diploma program or a Software Engineering degree program
· Highly motivated with a focus on results
· Well organized with strong multi-tasking skills
· Critical thinker with strong troubleshooting skills
· Effective communicator in both written and oral formats
· Eligible to obtain a Security Clearance (NATO Level Clearance)
What You Should Bring:
· 1 to 4 years of software development experience in a relevant environment
· Experience developing Windows desktop applications using Microsoft .NET environments AND/OR
Experience in developing low-level or embedded software using the C programming language AND/OR
Experience in Web Application development and deployment to AWS
· Demonstrated experience with one or more programming languages (e.g., VB .NET, C, Python, PHP, or JavaScript)
· An ability to work individually or in a team environment
· One or more of the following would be assets for this role, but are not required:
· Familiarity with the AngularJS web framework
· Familiarity with the Django web framework
· Experience with Continuous Integration practices using Jenkins
· Familiarity with real-time operating systems for embedded software development
· Familiarity with relational database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL)
