Position Overview

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Assistant is responsible for the administration of the records related to collisions, injury, incident, accident investigations and other safety activities. The Health & Safety Assistant will support the Health & Safety Manager in executing the safety protocols. This is an entry level position geared towards someone with strong administrative skills and an interest in Health and Safety.

Primary Responsibilities

Administration

  • Monitoring, updating, and tracking records of collisions, incidents, WSIB, Transdev records, and near misses to help prevent future incidents
  • Document and follow up of safety incidents
  • Maintain accurate records to ensure compliance with health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Ensure facility and evidence binder audits, field audits, truck audits are maintained and up to date
  • Support the Health and Safety Manager on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and day to day tasks related to Health & Safety including action emails.
  • Provide incident investigation administration support as required.
  • Assist with injury reporting and return to work process
  • Carries out duties as may be required by the health and safety manager
  • Ensures incident and collision reporting is complete and reported in a timely fashion; establishes appropriate follow-up
  • Enter all collision and incident reports into analysis and assist with identifying trends in recent incidents and collision
  • Provide assistance in minutes taking, updating reports and obtaining statistical reports for safety meetings and follow up meetings
  • Update the scorecards according to the details submitted from each division as part of the due diligence.
  • Ensure proofs are submitted for completing Key Performance Indicators as per the scorecard and assigning scores accordingly

Health & Safety Program Support

  • Support the Health and Safety Manager on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and day to day tasks related to Health & Safety including action emails.
  • Provide incident investigation administration support as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Health & Safety Certificate program within Occupational Safety, Health or a related field would be an asset
  • 1-3 years prior relevant experience in transportation industry would be an asset
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certification would be an asset
  • JHSC Certification would be an asset
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Power Point, Word, Outlook) and database software
  • Knowledge and understanding of all health and safety legislation
  • Experience or ability to assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulations, safety programs, documentation and reporting requirements, safe work practices,
