About this Opportunity
This GIS Technologist position is responsible for the collection, organization, analysis, maintenance and presentation of spatial information and related databases. The position will assist a variety of WFN departments with the creation and management of GIS data, produce digital, graphical and descriptive mapping products. Performs Geographic Information System (GIS) work to support the ongoing development, maintenance and expansion of an organization-wide GIS database.

  • Design, develop, compile, update, analyze, and maintain departmental and organizational asset data including above ground and underground infrastructure. This includes crucial engineering datasets, planning datasets, and property management datasets.
  • Implement spatial / tabular data in relational databases ensuring that correct database structure, geometry and attribute rules are maintained.
  • Receive, record, and manage as-built and subsequent connection record data and compile in GIS along with maintenance of hyperlinks to related documents.
  • Provide cartographic design and preparation of maps and reports for department clients.
  • Provide spatial analysis for department queries utilizing GIS.
  • Ensure that quality assurance on new or revised data conforms to standards laid out in the GeoDatabase, or any other applicable standard or policy
  • Responsible for the conversion, import and export data in and out of the GIS system


Must Haves:

  • Degree in geography, environmental science, resource management, or related discipline with emphasis on and specific course work in GIS or an advanced diploma in GIS and data management
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Government setting operating a GIS system is considered an asset
  • Experience working within an Indigenous organization/community considered and asset
  • Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
