Job Brief

The Controller will monitor the company’s financial status, review monthly, quarterly and annual budgets and manage accounting transactions. Ultimately, the Controller ensures that the company complies with accounting regulations while maximizing profits and mitigating risks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage finance department
  • Generates, monitors, and checks for accuracy of all reports
  • Manage and reconcile all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
  • Development of asset payment schedules
  • Manage payment plan schedules and ensure prompt collection of funds
  • Oversee third-party payment collection software
  • Ensure timely bank and credit cards payments
  • Compute taxes and prepare tax returns
  • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements
  • Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity
  • Audit financial transactions and documents
  • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary
  • Manages all documentation required for (re)financing, acquisitions and dispositions
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Enact month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting using specific, predetermined evidence including monthly reconciliation, P&L documents and balance sheet
  • Sets and manages department KPIs
  • Analyze costs and profits
  • Set and track financial KPIs
  • Perform internal audits and assist with external audits
  • Manage and comply with local, provincial, federal, and international government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Oversee current and ongoing financial aspects of the organization and ensures readiness for future transactions across all locations
  • Track rental asset transactions
  • Attend and report at all Finance meetings as required
  • Regular reports to Principals
  • Tracking of rent collection, monitoring and reporting
  • Creating and overseeing dividend schedule
  • Oversee and track inter-company loans, transactions and chargebacks
  • Creating forecasting schedule (VTBs/Capital Gains/HST/Loans)
  • Create and oversee affiliate program payment schedule
  • Oversee budget for misc events and initiatives
  • Creating and overseeing investment strategies alongside Principals
  • Additional controller duties as necessary – may include personal financial duties

Requirements and Skills

  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Additional credentials an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience creating financial statements and other financial documents
  • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year close process
  • Experience with accounting software programs
  • Attention to detail
