Giant Tiger is seeking a summer 2023 Finance & Accounting Analyst Intern from the Carleton Finance or Accounting programs!
The Finance & Accounting Analyst Intern will be primarily responsible for supporting other members of the finance team on providing financial planning, analysis and decision support for different business units of Giant Tiger. This individual will work with the Giant Tiger Finance team, Buying teams, IS teams, Real Estate and Store Operations teams and have the chance to develop transferable skills and experience for your resume at a top Canadian retailer! Reporting to the Finance Manager, the intern will use financial planning and reporting tools to prepare various monthly and quarterly management P&L reports, and provide ad hoc support of new projects as they arise.
Finance & Accounting Analyst Intern, Role Highlights:
Support and assist in the completion of monthly and quarterly Board and Executive reporting;
Contribute to the generation of ROI analysis and reporting in support of investment decisions;
Perform ad hoc requests from Senior Management, Executives and the Board;
Complete month end journal entries and accruals for retail stores;
Assist with retail stores and corporate divisions’ quarterly forecast updates;
Generate ad hoc financial analysis and reports as required to support business decisions that create value for Giant Tiger;
Assist with corporate and retail divisions’ annual budget completion;
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of general accounting and financial analysis concepts
Finance & Accounting Analyst Intern, Candidate Assets:
Working towards a Bachelor’s degree with a focus or major in Accounting or Finance, or other related discipline;
Interest in pursuing an accounting designation (CPA);
Proficient with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (functions, pivot tables, macros, etc.);
Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to take initiative;
Strong organizational and analytical skills; Strong communication skills;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Experience in creating business cases or budgeting and planning is considered an asset;
Basic knowledge of OLAP, Workday Financial and IBM Cognos TM1
Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
Work experience in retail or related industry is considered an asset
