The City of Grande Prairie is looking for an individual who has experience working in labor positions. They should be a good team player, and willing to work with various work groups within parks and transportation.
Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Performing labor using hands or hand tools may involve the operation of minor, power or electric equipment will involve sustained and/ or repeated physical demands, must have knowledge of operation and maintenance of parks/ transportation equipment, and the ability to work rotating shifts both in summer and winter.

Labourer (established)

Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licenses required

• Performs labour using hands or generally used hand tools
• May involve the sustained operation of minor, power, or electronic equipment
• May involve sustained and/or repeated heavy physical demand
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of Transportation/Parks equipment
• Ability to work on shifts that will supply 24/7 coverage during Winter operations

Responsibilities*
As an established laborer in the summer, you may perform any type of labor using your hands, tools, or equipment. Parks has many different departments including, Outdoor Asset management, Landscape, Ornamental, Cemetery, South Bear Creek, Turf Operations, Integrated Pest Management, Tree Crew, and Weed Inspection. This position can work in any of these work units during the summer months.
In winter you will be working in residential areas during snow clearing, duties may include hauling snow. Performance of your duties in winter is an invaluable part of maintaining safe passage of traffic. In Spring duties include clean-up of winter sand, and litter and patching potholes.

• Valid Alberta driver's License.
• Ability to work shifts
• Ability to work in an all-weather environment
• Ability to do hard physical labour for sustained periods
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of large tractors and landscape equipment
• Ability to be trained on other Parks and Transportation Equipment
• Knowledge of other Transportation and Parks Crew duties.
• Certification in First Aid and WHMIS
• Basic Computer Skills.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to become skilled at operating other equipment as required.
• Safety and Red Binder component knowledge

Class III with Air Endorsement would be an asset.
The Transportation and Parks Departments are a multi-task weather-dependent departments. The successful candidate may be required to perform other duties as required on a day to day basis. May be required to participate in standby rotation.
This position is based on a 40-hour work week. Safety footwear is required. Please note that smoking restrictions are in effect.
Applicants selected for interview may be tested in some of the above qualifications and may be requested to bring a current Driver’s Abstract to the interview.
The successful candidate may be asked to undergo a physical needs assessment.
