We are recruiting a Distribution Lead, Shipping to work out of our Oakville Distribution Centre and be broadly responsible for the following:

Accountabilities:

  • Provide functional and people leadership of shift:

 Ensure a healthy and safe work environment for all employees and visitors in the Distribution Centre (DC)

 Employee scheduling, with consideration to volume, statutory holidays and other fluctuations impacting scheduling

 Resolution of day to day operational and personnel issues

 Lead staff in following processes related to and independent of Warehouse Management System (SAP)

 Ensure adherence to housekeeping standards

 Facilitation of daily shift huddles and other employee meetings as required

  • Independently lead shifts, ensuring all orders are processed and shipped to customers, adhere to established deadlines, take responsibility for building security and lock up at close of shift
  • Input into reporting such as payroll hours, LPH statistics, shift and truck times
  • Inform Manager, DC Operations in a timely manner of outbound issues, along with recommendation to mitigate issue
  • When required, assist hourly staff with their work
  • Assist the Manager, DC Operations with all outbound-related tasks
  • Conduct Monthly Productivity Reviews with Material Handling employees
  • Encourage teamwork within the team to ensure productivity targets are met or exceeded, using huddles and one on one discussions
  • Motivate, coach, and train employees providing both informal (on-floor coaching) and formal job performance feedback
  • Ensure agency and/or new hires receive adequate training and monitor performance to close any gaps
  • Provide informal (on the floor coaching) to employees in the areas of productivity, accuracy, attendance, health & safety and attitude
  • Provide just in time performance feedback on a formal basis when needed
  • Flexible to work multiple shifts to backfill vacation or illness
  • Critically evaluate environment and procedures and offer suggestions to increase safety and efficiency in the warehouse
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years material handling experience in a fast paced, warehouse distribution environment, using leading-edge wireless distribution technology
  • 3-5 years leadership experience for inbound or outbound function in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

Education:

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma or recognized equivalent
  • Post-secondary education in Business or Logistics an asset
  • Licensed Forklift Operator’s Certificate

  • Relationship Building: works to build or maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders whose cooperation is important to present or future success
  • Awareness: Be aware of surroundings and inform management of hazardous situations/processes to improve safety
  • Accuracy: Essential to ensure right content in outbound shipments, increasing customer satisfaction and resulting in a lower return rate
  • Ability to meet/exceed deadlines: Ensures customer satisfaction and timely processing of orders. Highly organized, self-motivated team player with a keen sense of responsibility to the client
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and motivate team members
  • Hands on Leader: ability to work side by side with associates on the floor performing all tasks in the Distribution Centre

Working Conditions:

  • Job is performed in a warehouse environment
  • Large proportion of shift (85-90%) spent standing or walking
  • Lift up to 50 lbs as required
  • Push/pull/carry boxes and shipping totes as required
  • Access objects above, at or below shoulder level as required
  • Operate material handling equipment as required
  • Ascends/descends ladders/stairs as required
  • Ability to make quick decision and supervise other employees
  • Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Extended hours as required
